Charity Events Abound in February
Our club is participating in a number of charity events beginning the month of February. We hope everyone can participate in at least one or two!
First, we are organizing an emergency relief drive for a Haitian family displaced by the earthquake. MOMS Club member Jamie O’Hanlon’s cousin has family from Port-au-Prince. They survived the earthquake, but lost everything. The father stayed behind while the mother was able to leave with her 3 young children and a 16 year old cousin. They’ve since moved in with a family in New York, yet they have nothing. We are now collecting donations of clothing, diapers, shoes, etc. Jamie will take the donations to the family as they come in. This event will run throughout the month, but the sooner they get the necessary items, the better. Please help and know your charitable donations are truly helping someone in need (See Community Service Projects above for an update).
Next, join us on February 5th at MP Courts for a Go Red playdate! Lisa Deck, a long-time supporter of the American Heart and Stroke Association, is hosting a playdate to raise awareness and to support the AHSA Wear Red Day program. Beginning at 10 a.m., join us for unlimited play in the gym for a discounted rate of $5 per child. Be sure to wear red and show your support for the fight against heart disease and stroke!
Finally, MOMS Club member Melanie Brucato is helping to organize a fundraiser for the Avon Foundation’s Breast Cancer Crusade. Melanie, along with her group Team Cowgirls Cure, are sponsoring a roller skating event at United Skates of America in Rumford, RI on February 15th from 4:30-6:30 p.m. The cost is $5, plus a skate rental fee of $3 (though bring along your own skates if you have them!) All proceeds will benefit the Crusade’s fight against breast cancer.

Julia's Garden Wine Event
Our club is organizing groups of members to attend the upcoming Julia’s Garden Charity Wine Event on March 12, 2010 from 7-11 p.m. Julia Cekala was the child of a local family. She passed away in 2003 at the age of 9, succumbing to hemorrhagic pancreatitis, though she battled autism, renal failure, and a seizure disorder (just to name a few). Her family has since established The Julia Cekala Charitable Foundation and created Julia’s Garden, an amazing playground and nature center located in WW1 Park in North Attleboro. To fund their efforts, they have established a variety of fundraising events throughout the year. This is the third year they are hosting a wine tasting charity event.
